Leigha Hasha
Leigha Hasha is a textile artist whose material consists of quilts that are no longer desired by their original owners. They are beautiful pieces of heritage art in themselves, and they have been used and loved as quilts should be. Consequently, they have become worn, faded, damaged, and are no longer useful as quilts. Here, they become Leigha’s medium. She honors unsung artists of generations prior by reinvigorating their (appropriately) worn work. Therefore, use them; display them; talk about them; and pay homage to the unknown Alabamian who decades ago sat on the front porch with their friends and hand stitched you a jacket.
Like Leigha, all of her materials are from Alabama, and they are repurposed in Alabama. Leigha is from Hokes Bluff in nearby Etowah County, but she currently resides in Sylacauga, Alabama just outside of the Talladega National Forest. She is a loving wife and a caring mother of two young children.
